APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS CALL FOR ENTRIES, 13th
EDITION, 2008

The Ourense International Film Festival is held yearly. Since its creation, it has become a consolidated event and well-known showcase of the most relevant independent film productions around the world, as well as renown meeting point and platform for audiovisual works and professional development in Galicia. The 2007edition received 1.157 films coming from 80 different countries. The 13th edition of the Festival will take place from October 11 – 18, 2008. 1. OFFICIAL COMPETITIVE SECTION The Festival’s International competition is divided into 5 main categories:
We accept competition applications from every producer, director and/or distribution company who hold legal control over the presented works. The person signing the entry form will be considered as the only one speaker to treat aspects related to the participation of the movie in the event and the only representative of all individuals or companies who took part in the production of the movie. 3. REQUIREMENTS In order to compete in the official sections, movies have to meet the following requirements: • Work has to be produced in 2007 - 2008. • Not having shown the work commercially before October 11th, 2008 in commercial venues in Spain (except in festivals) or on television (except in subscription channels or channels of local reception). •Not having published the work in Video or DVD version for commercial purposes in Spain. 4. REGISTRATION FOR THE COMPETITION 4.1 Submissions by e-mail will not be accepted. 4.2 Deadline for the submissions will be June 10th, 2008. 4.3 The following material must be sent by post or courier: 1. Entry form, properly completed and signed 2. A film copy in DVD format, preferably subtitled in english 3. List of dialogues (in English, Spanish or French) (*) 4. Trailer in DVD format. If trailer is not available, send a selection (minimum: 30 seconds) with images extracted from the movie 5. Short synopsis (not more than 5 lines long) (*) 6. Extensive synopsis (not more than 20 lines long) (*) 7. High resolution stills, in digital format (900 pixels or more) (*) 8. Director’s Curriculum Vitae (not more than 10 lines long) (*) 9. Director’s filmography (*) 10. Director’s high resolution photo, in digital format (300 pixels or more) (*) 11. Producer’s Curriculum Vitae (not more than 10 lines long) (*) 12. Production company profile (10 lines long) (*) 13. Promotional material (poster, advertising, press info, etc.) (*) All the material with the sign (*) must be sent in digital format files, recorded in a CD. These files also can be sent by e-mail to the following address: coordinador@ourencine.org 5. MAILING ADDRESS FOR APPLICATIONS Applications sent by regular mail: Festival de Cine Internacional de Ourense Apartado (P.O. Box) 664, 32080 Ourense, España (Spain). PROMOTION For promotional and information purposes related to the event, the festival will be able to use and publish provided materials (stills, posters, cards, script excerpts, press info, etc.). Up to three minutes of images of the movies will be allowed to be published or boradcasted by Internet, TV, theatrical exhibition, press, etc. as promotional for the films and the Festival. 7. SELECTION A selection committee will select the feature films, documentaries, short films and new media formats that will compete in the official categories. The festival will screen the selected films in the movie theaters used for the event from October 11th to 18th, 2008. The organization will establish order, date and time of the screenings. The Final Selection will be announced to the selected participants. 8. SCREENING COPIES For their screening during the competition, the person or entity having presented the film for competition will have to provide the Festival with one copy of the film (free of charges) (in 35mm or DVD), with the specifications mentioned in the entry form, in order to be screened during the competition. Deadline to this copy arrival to Ourense will be September 24th, 2008. If the festival does not receive the screening copy of the selected film in this term, the organization could withdraw the movie from the contest. 35mm prints will be sent in clearly numbered reels and will have to remain in Ourense until October 18th, 2008. The transportation costs to Ourense of all the copies, including customs taxes, must be paid for the person or entities that have registered the films. Once finished the festival, the 35mm prints will be returned to the place of origin or to a similar distance. The copies in DVD, trailers and the rest of the material sent to the contest will not be returned. With the agreement of their owners, the screeners copies in DVD that were sent within the registration, could be used for the festival screenings. Insurance contracted by festival covers risk of fire, loss, theft or destruction of the copy from its arrival to the festival headquarter till its return date. The festival responsibility will be limited and, in any case, will not exceed a new standard copy cost, according to the current tariffs of the Spanish laboratories. Maximum term to any type of claim on a copy in 35mm returned will be 30 days from the date of the sending from Ourense, during which it must not have been screened. |

9. AWARDS AND HONORS The Official Sections Awards will be decided by its juries. These prizes will be given and not be granted ex-aequo. The Feature Films and Short Films juries will not be able to give more than two awards to the same film. The Documentaries jury will not be able to give more than one award to the same film. Audience Award will be based solely on spectators voting after the screenings. There is no right of appeal against the juries and audience vote decisions. Grand Prize for the Best Animation Film NEW MEDIA Grand Prize for the Innovation in audiovisual productions EIXO ATLÁNTICO AWARD The festival will grant an aditional special prize to the best film produced in Galicia or Portugal of anyone of the previous mentioned categories. All winners will be awarded with an additional award statuette. The winner or a representative must attend the Festival’s closing ceremony to pick up the statuette. Note: The amount of the prizes will be published soon, at this Festival website: www.ourencine.org 10. GENERAL CONDITIONS The movies selected for the competition in the official sections are also elegible for other awards offered by institutions, organizations and companies. Decission on these awards given by organizations other than the Festival are also inappealable. All awards are subject to the Spanish fiscal regulations currently in force. All awarded persons and companies, must send to the festival all necessary information and documents within 90 days from the festival closing date, to ensure that the fiscal requirements are upheld. In case that the awarded ones do not send the required information and/or documents within the indicated period, they will not have right for any compensation. 8. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION The Festival is entitled to make decisions on all matters not contemplated in this document or over any issue that might arise and that might need clarification. Applying and registering to the 13th edition of the Ourense International Film Festival implies full compliance of these requirements, rules and regulations by the participants, their agents and representatives. The Festival can edit any additional rules or dispositions that it deems necessary for its better outcome. The responsibility for the interpretation and application of these rules and norms rests on the festival organization, which has the right to decide over unforeseen circumstances not covered in these regulations, including any existed doubts. In case of litigation, only the courts of the city of Ourense will be competent and have jurisdiction. If a competitor was breaking the regulations of the festival or in response to conducts that affect the good development of the event, the organization will be able to cancel the participation of his movie. Winning films will have to include in their credits and promotional material, specifically, a mention about the award won at the Ourense Film Festival. With the authorization of the person or entity that has registered the movie, expressed on having refilled his entry form, the festival will be able to exhibit the above mentioned movie in its not competitive programming. Awarded films will have the obligation to include a special mention to the award obtained at the Ourense International Film Festival in all their credits and promotional materials. With the previous communication to the author/s and/or producers the Festival reserves its right to exhibit copies of films registered in the competition within the geographic region of Galicia for cultural, educational, non-commercial and non-profit purposes such as case studies for film schools, school educational materials, Festival promotion, etc. DOWNLOAD THE ENTRY FORM
