SHYAMA AND THE DIGITAL REVOLUTION
Obhi Chatterjee, British director of the feature film Shyama included in the 'Homage to Rabindranath Tagore' section of the festival, explains how Shyama has taken advantage of the opportunities created by the digital revolution to raise international awareness of Tagore and the dance form created by Tagore towards the end of his life.
As one of the first digital end-to-end films, Shyama offers an interesting case study in the production, global distribution and promotion possibilities offered to good films by the digital revolution. The Shyama model illustrates one of the new business models tailored to today's digital reality. Through an illustrated presentation followed by a question-and-answer session, Obhi hopes to offer some insights into how the digital revolution in the audiovisual medium is helping Tagore's works finally to cross linguistic and international boundaries, as Tagore had wished them to do in his lifetime.
