What if the leap from Making a Murderer to True Detective was just a matter of style? In the late 90s, a Dutch couple went through Europe aboard their motor home to settle in the secluded village of Santoalla, in the province of Ourense, completely abandoned except for the presence of a local family, some beautiful ancient landscapes and only a handful of animals. In 2010, two filmmakers from New York traveled to this Galician village to research a strange event: the sudden disappearance of one of the Dutchs. This documentary of rural terror records how a hippie dream is transformed before our eyes into an atavistic nightmare, a pure genre film inscribed into reality: the filmmakers plow the land with their cameras to expose that the seed of fiction is hidden under the surface. Using footage taken by the missing person and from the local media, the filming of this mystery will uncover another latent enigma, perhaps the greatest of all: the mystery of human condition itself. An authentic narrative bomb that will hook you until its end, which could as well be the beginning of a ghost movie.
