A woman, her voice, her body: shouts, outbreaks and inflections. Manuel Fernández-Valdés makes a peculiar and intense portrait of Angélica Liddell, a poet, actress and avant-garde theatre director, by stripping her while also shaping her or sculpting her, during the creative process of a next play, which includes reminiscences to China and the Utoya mass shootings.
To the rhythm of The House of the Rising Sun by The Animals, Liddell, in a sort of “spoken word”, proposes verb as an act of rupture, in which speech takes on the dimension of the subversive, in order to break and create. Under the influence of the film diary, Fernández-Valdés describes Angélica’s motivations, in a transaction between Eros and Thanatos, from the dialectic of violence and power, keeping her alive and overflowing her; it is as if the energy and vitality showwn in her plays and poems were the sum of the postponement of her own imaginable tragedy.
