Daniel Boone was the pioneer who in the 18th century opened the Wilderness Road, one of the ways by which thousands of settlers expanded civilization, agriculture and ranching through the wild lands of the American West. But Boone is not a biopic of this legendary explorer, although the three farmers portrayed by Christopher Lamarca could well be his distant descendants. The beauty of this observational documentary does not arise from the adventure of the journey but from the epic of those who have reached a destinantion and decide to stay, from the vérité of their everyday gestures, from their deep relationship with the land and cattle … from their committed (and unrealistic) resistance against extensive farming and the laws that favour it.
