Again and again, Aristarain has repeated that for him there are no commissioned films, as long as he can turn them into his own. That is what he achieved with La ley de la frontera, a screenplay by Galician author Miguel-Anxo Murado that Aristarain was able to rewrite and direct to his liking. The action -the term here is quite appropriate- takes place in 1924, on the border between Galicia and Portugal, a beautiful virgin land where law and order have not yet managed to prevail, as in the westerns. There João and Xan will meet, being two fugitives: one from the convent, the other from the militia.
Buenos Aires, 1943. Began working as an assistant director in Spain and Argentina, before making his debut feature film La parte del león (1978). His most important works are Tiempo de revancha (1981), Un lugar en el mundo (1992, Goya Award for Best Foreign Film in Spanish Language), and Martin (Hache) (1997).
