Guy Maddin constructed My Winnipeg, a film between dream and memory, around a train journey through cold Canada. In Treblinka everything runs on a train travelling through  snow-clad Eastern Europe, where many characters evoke the horror of their experience during the Holocaust. The film seems at times a dream, with figures that give off a halo, with ghostly landscapes, with voices that resound in off. “It seems that all roads lead to Auschwitz, to Dachau, to Treblinka,” says one woman at a time. And on the memory of a past that should not be repeated, the furious shade of a cruel present is installed.
