The latest installment of Matías Piñeiro’s Shakespearean series gets away from his previous tributes to the classic playwright. Hermia & Helena discovers a new Piñeiro, possessed by the desire to reinvent himself. His sixth film was shot in another territory (New York), in another language and with the collaboration of actors from the American indie cinema. In addition, this unusual rewriting of A Midsummer Night’s Dream is based on anecdotes from the filmmaker’s life in America. The protagonist, a radiant Agustina Muñoz, enters an artist residency in New York, where she experiences an existential revelation that pushes her into new adventures, more romantic and personal than artistic.
