It is said that wit is sharpened in the most desperate moments. When we are with the water up to our neck, either we reinvent ourselves or we die, and that’s precisely what Mick and Paul, the characters of Mattress Men, intend to do during the hardest times of the financial crisis: to save a mattress business in Ireland by making psychotronic viral videos for the Internet. Behind these bizarre images we may find some fragile beings that all they want is to fight to get ahead, while Colm Quinn’s camera brings us closer to their personal tragedies, their frustrating routine, turning the funny initial premise into a painful and moving introduction to human misery.
